The incident occurred in Shelton around 10:15 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Cumberland Farms on River Road.
When Shelton Police arrived they discovered a broken window and recovered a spent shell casing in the parking lot, said Detective Christopher Nugent of the Shelton Police.
No one was reported to be injured in the incident, Nugent said.
Nugent said Shelton detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and identified Joshua Vazquez, age 18, of Shelton as a suspect.
Detectives with the assistance of Connecticut State Police Gangs and Narcotics Task Force located Vazquez in New Haven County in Ansonia, where a firearm and clothing matching the description worn in surveillance footage at the gas station, Nugent said.
The gun was recovered.
Vazquez was placed under arrest and charged with:
- Unlawful discharge of a firearm
- Reckless endangerment,
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Threatening
- Breach of peace
- Illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine.
Vazquez was placed on a $300,000 bond. and scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
